The Peterborough Pop Ensemble is back!
The Peterborough Pop Ensemble is excited to be back performing at Market Hall this coming April. We will be bringing you a selection of our favourite songs from the past 20 (+2) years. The show promises to have a little something for everyone including selections from ABBA and music of the 1970's. We are also excited to have our pit band performing with us including Barry Haggarty, Andrew Affleck, Kyle Monahan and Justin Hiscox. Tickets will be available at Market Hall starting in February.
The Peterborough Pop Ensemble has been performing throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area since 2000.

The Peterborough Pop Ensemble first began in the spring of 2000 under the name The Peterborough Singers Pop Ensemble. The group was created to perform a few popular songs at the Valentine’s Concert for our local award-winning chorus The Peterborough Singers. Barbara Monahan was asked to direct because of her love of “pop” music, and her ability to create a casual, relaxed performance atmosphere. With Barb at the piano, watching the ensemble perform was like being invited into their living room to enjoy an intimate concert. The audience’s response was so enthusiastic that the members of this small group decided to keep the group together. Several performance opportunities followed in the fall and, as they say, the rest is history.
In 2008 the Pop Ensemble made the decision to forge ahead on their own and officially becoming the Peterborough Pop Ensemble as of January 1, 2009. Many talented vocalists have come and gone through the years; each has enriched the development and musical performances of this diverse vocal ensemble.
The Pop Ensemble would have enjoyed singing at the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival this year. It is always such an honour to be part of the Carnation ceremony – a ceremony of remembrance – which is held annually. Special mention to Survivors Abreast who organize this amazing event. All money raised goes to purchasing equipment to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
What a world we live in. Losing our beloved director Barb Monahan and COVID have put a bit of a dent in our style as it were. We are moving through the changes and have established a new board with many thanks to the former board members. We also say goodbye to Susan Dunkley, our intrepid business manager for many years (19). We will not be the same without these 2 prominent individuals but we know we will continue to strive to promote quality popular music in our community. Stay tuned!
