The Peterborough Pop Ensemble is back!

The Peterborough Pop Ensemble was excited to return to perform at Market Hall on June 4th. What a wonderful evening of beautiful music. A selection of the group's favourite songs from the past 20 (+2) years was performed. The show had a little something for everyone including hits from ABBA and music of the 1970's. The talented pit band performed including Barry Haggarty, Andrew Affleck, Kyle Monahan and Janina Kraus. Thank you to all who attended the concert for a magical evening!

Stay tuned for details about this season's concerts:

About Us

The Peterborough Pop Ensemble has been performing throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area since 2000.

The Pop Ensemble strives to present the highest level of musical excellence while creating wonderful concert experiences for its audiences. With a diverse musical style and an obvious love of singing, the Pop Ensemble has developed a remarkable reputation for its musical interpretations of a broad spectrum of music, including jazz, pop, Broadway and gospel. Described as energetic and infectious, the Peterborough Pop Ensemble celebrates music and the way it can inspire and unite us all.

The Peterborough Pop Ensemble believes in the importance of supporting local charities and the community, and the Pop Ensemble proudly participates in many local events. In June 2012 the Pop Ensemble was awarded a Civic Award for Community Betterment and has been named Peterborough's "musical ambassadors".

The Peterborough Pop Ensemble first began in the spring of 2000 under the name The Peterborough Singers Pop Ensemble. The group was created to perform a few popular songs at the Valentine’s Concert for our local award-winning chorus The Peterborough Singers. Barbara Monahan was asked to direct because of her love of “pop” music, and her ability to create a casual, relaxed performance atmosphere. With Barb at the piano, watching the ensemble perform was like being invited into their living room to enjoy an intimate concert. The audience’s response was so enthusiastic that the members of this small group decided to keep the group together. Several performance opportunities followed in the fall and, as they say, the rest is history.

In 2008 the Pop Ensemble made the decision to forge ahead on their own and officially becoming the Peterborough Pop Ensemble as of January 1, 2009. Many talented vocalists have come and gone through the years; each has enriched the development and musical performances of this diverse vocal ensemble.

Paddles Up!

The Pop Ensemble was honoured to sing at the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival this year. It is always such a privilege to be part of the Carnation ceremony - a ceremony of remembrance - which is held annually. Special mention to Survivors Abreast who organized this amazing event. All money raised helped purchase equipment to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
